Analysis - Hatchet 3 (2013) (Decker Shado)

Hatchet 3 (2013) is the third horror film of the Hatchet Series. It follows the murderous adventures of Victor Crowley through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder stars as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn plays Deputy Winslow and Rileah Vanderbilt is Misty.

The film's greatest strength is the use of real-world special effects. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of practical makeup effects and sets. This is a departure from many horror movies nowadays that heavily rely on CG effects. The film also has several truly terrifying moments.

Kane Hodder stands out as an formidable villain. The cast provides an impressive performance. The dialogue is a bit snarky and witty to feel like a true '80s slasher movie at moments. There are some really humorous moments that provide a comic contrast to the heartbreaking violence.

Because the budget was one million dollars, the majority of locations were reused from previous movies. The house on the lake used twice in the movie was one instance. A lot of the film feels like it was recycled from other movies within the series. It can feel almost too familiar for those who have watched Hatchet or Hatchet 2

Overall, Hatchet 3 was (blog post) enjoyable although it was like the previous entries in the series. It provided lots of thrilling thrills and entertaining performances by the actors.
